Bíblia (NT-James 2:5-26)5 Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: did not God choose the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be the heirs to the kingdom which he promised to those who love him?
You, on the other hand, have dishonoured the poor. Is it not the rich who lord it over you?
Are not they the ones who drag you into court, who insult the honourable nameb which has been pronounced over you?
If, however, you keep the royal Law of scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself’, you are doing well.
But as soon as you become partial, you are committing sin and are condemned for breaking the Law.
Anyone who keeps the whole of the Law but trips up on a single point, is still guilty of breaking it all.
He who said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’ said also, ‘You shall not murder.’ If you commit adultery but do not commit murder you have still transgressed the Law.
Talk and behave like people who are going to be judged by the law of freedom.
Whoever acts without mercy will be judged without mercy, but mercy triumphs over judgement.
How does it help, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Will faith save that person?
If one of the brothers or one of the sisters is in need of clothes and has not enough food to live on,
and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace. Keep warm and eat plenty,’ without giving them the bare necessities of life, what good is that?
In the same way faith: if good deeds do not go with it, it is quite dead by itself.
But someone may say, ‘So you have faithd and I have good deeds.’ Show me this faith of yours without deeds then, and I will show you faith by means of my deeds!
You believe in the one God – fine! But even the demons have belief, and they tremble with fear.
Fool! Do you want to know that faith without deeds is barren?
Abraham our father was not justified by his deeds when he offered his son Isaac on the altar.
So you can see that his faith cooperated with his works, and his faith was completed by his works.
In this way the scripture was fulfilled: Abraham put his faith in God, and this was considered as making him righteous, and he received the name ‘friend of God’.
You see that it is by deeds, and not only by believing, that someone is justified.
Similarly, Rahab the prostitute, was she not justified by her deeds when she welcomed the messengers and sent them away by a different road?
As a body without a spirit is dead, so is faith without deeds.
