 A Arca da Aliança era um sinal da presença de Deus no meio do povo

8 Make me a sanctuary so that I can reside among them.
9 You will make it all according to the design for the Dwelling and the design for its furnishings which I shall now show you.
10 ‘You must make me an ark of acacia wood, one metre long, half a metre wide and half a metre high.
11 You will overlay it, inside and out, with pure gold and make a gold moulding round it.
12 You will cast four gold rings for it and fix them to its four supports: two rings on one side and two rings on the other.
13 You will also make shafts of acacia wood and overlay them with gold
14 and pass the shafts through the rings on the sides of the ark, by which to carry it.
15 The shafts will stay in the rings of the ark and not be withdrawn.
16 Inside the ark you will put the Testimony which I shall give you.
17 ‘You will also make a mercy-seat of pure gold, one metre long and half a metre wide,
18 and you will make two cherubim of beaten gold, you will make them at the two ends of the mercy-seat.
19 Make one of the cherubim at one end and the other at the other end; make the cherubim at either end.
20 The cherubim shall spread their wings upwards, protecting the mercy-seat with their wings and facing each other, their faces being towards the mercy-seat.
21 You will put the mercy-seat on the top of the ark, and inside the ark you will put the Testimony which I shall give you.
22 There I shall come to meet you; from above the mercy-seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony, I shall give you all my orders for the Israelites.

8 At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levib to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand in the presence of the LORD, to serve him and to bless in his name, as they still do today.
9 This is why Levi has no share or heritage with his brothers: the LORD is his heritage, as the LORD your God told him.

3 When the people returned to camp, the elders of Israel said, ‘Why has the LORD let us be defeated by the Philistines today? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Shiloh so that, when he comes with us, he may save us from the hands of our enemies.’
4 So the people sent to Shiloh and brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD Sabaoth enthroned on the cherubim. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, came with the ark of the covenant of God.
5 When the ark of the covenant of the LORD arrived in the camp, all Israel raised a great war cry so that the earth resounded.
6 When the Philistines heard the sound of the war cry, they said, ‘What can this great war cry in the Hebrew camp mean?’ And they realised that the ark of the LORD had come into the camp.
7 The Philistines were afraid; for they said, ‘God has come into the camp? This means disaster for us! Nothing like this has ever happened before.
