 Cura dos dois homens possessos de demônio

28 When he reached the territory of the Gadarenes on the other side, two demoniacs came towards him out of the tombs – they were so dangerously violent that nobody could pass along that way.
29 Suddenly they shouted, ‘What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before the time?’
30 Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding,
31 and the demons pleaded with Jesus, ‘If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.’
32 And he said to them, ‘Go!’ and they came out and made for the pigs; and suddenly the whole herd charged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water.

1 They reached the territory of the Gerasenes on the other side of the lake,
2 and when he disembarked, a man with an unclean spirit at once came out from the tombs towards him.
3 The man lived among the tombs and no one could secure him any more, even with a cord,
4 because he had often been secured with fetters and cords but had snapped the cords and rubbed away the fetters, and no one had the strength to control him.
5 All night and all day, among the tombs and in the mountains, he was howling and gashing himself with stones.
6 Catching sight of Jesus from a distance, he ran up and fell at his feet
7 and cried out at the top of his voice, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? In God’s name do not torture me!’
8 For Jesus had been saying to him, ‘Come out of the man, unclean spirit.’
9 Then he asked, ‘What is your name?’ He answered, ‘My name is Legion, for there are many of us.’
10 And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the district.
11 Now on the mountainside there was a great herd of pigs feeding,
12 and the unclean spirits begged him, ‘Send us to the pigs, so that we may enter them.’
13 So he gave them leave, and the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the herd charged down the cliff into the lake, about two thousand of them, and they were drowned in the lake.
14 Their herdsmen ran off and told their story in the town and in the countryside; and the people came to see what had happened.
15 They came to Jesus and saw the demoniac – the man who had had the legion in him – sitting there clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.
16 And those who had witnessed it reported what had happened to the demoniac and about the pigs.
17 Then they began to implore Jesus to leave their neighbourhood.
18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed begged to be allowed to stay with him.
19 Jesus refused but said to him, ‘Go home to your people and tell them all that the Lord in his mercy has done for you.’
20 So the man went off and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And everyone was amazed.

26 They came to land in the territory of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.
27 He was stepping ashore when a man from the town who was possessed by demons came to meet him; for a long time the man had worn no clothes, and had lived not in a house, but in the tombs.
28 Catching sight of Jesus he cried out, fell at his feet and shouted out at the top of his voice, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? I implore you, do not torture me.’
29 For Jesus had been telling the unclean spirit to come out of the man. It had seized on him a great many times, and then they used to secure him with cords and fetters to restrain him, but he would always break the bonds and be driven by the demon out into the wilds.
30 Jesus asked him, ‘What is your name?’ He said, ‘Legion’ – because many demons had entered him.
31 And these begged him not to order them to depart into the deep.
32 Now a large herd of pigs was feeding there on the mountain, and the demons begged him to let them go into these. So he gave them leave.
33 The demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd charged down the cliff into the lake and was drowned.
34 When the herdsmen saw what had happened they ran off and told their story in the town and in the countryside;
35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus they found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
36 Those who had witnessed it told them how the possessed man came to be saved.
37 The entire population of the Gerasene territory asked Jesus to leave them, for they were gripped by great fear. So he got into the boat and went away.
